WASHINGTON, N.C. – Beaufort County is launching its inaugural Citizens Academy, an interactive program that gives residents an in-depth look at how their county operates.
The 11-week Citizens Academy begins in late January 2026, with classes held once per week in the evening. Participants will meet county staff, tour facilities, and take part in hands-on activities that highlight the County’s departments and services.
The Beaufort County Citizens Academy aims to:
- Inform citizens about county operations and opportunities for engagement.
- Invest in a diverse group of citizens interested in future public service.
- Identify opportunities to enhance transparency and effective communication by county departments.
- Provide opportunities for participants to give constructive feedback on County services.
The program runs from Jan. 26 to April 6, 2026. Classes will meet Thursday evenings, except for the first class (orientation) and graduation ceremony, which will take place on Monday nights.
Participants will explore all areas of Beaufort County Government, from general administration and financial management to public safety and community services. The program includes presentations, interactive budgeting exercises, and behind-the-scenes facility tours.
